Tips and Tricks for an amazing Maternity Portrait Session
- Maternity sessions should be taken around 28 – 32 week mark. You want a nice big belly, but don’t wait till you are too uncomfortable.
- You’ll want your belly to take center stage so make sure you wear clothing that accentuates your pregnancy. Shirts that fit snug around the belly over jeans or leggings are great. Layers look great, and bring a pair of fabulous shoes or a great necklace for a pop of color and texture! For those interested in the more intimate session, please make sure to avoid any tight fitting clothing around the belly for at least two hours before the session. This prevents unwanted lines and marks on the skin.
- Your hands, and your husbands hands, will be in a lot of the pictures. If you paint your nails, make sure they are well done for the session. Chipped nails will show up and it’s not a good look. Choose a neutral color to compliment your outfit. And dad, make sure your nails are clean and trimmed.
- Please feel free to bring any props you may want to use…. sonogram, baby booties, or any other special item you would like to incorporate.
- Have fun and relax, you are beautiful and your body is doing amazing things! We want to capture that connection, love and anticipation that we know you are feeling right now!
Congratulations on your New Baby!!
This is such an incredibly amazing time and we would be honored to help you capture these special moments. Your newborn session revolves around the needs of your precious baby so be prepared for a 2 – 4 hour session. If they are sleeping well during the session things can go quickly, if they aren’t it can take longer, but just relax and enjoy the time. Remember, they are only this little for a short while so we don’t want to miss it!

Tips and tricks for an awesome Newborn Portrait Session
- The most ideal time frame to capture your baby is within the first 7 – 10 days after birth. They tend to sleep a lot more and we will be able to gently move them around for adorable poses.
- Please keep your baby awake for an hour or two before our session. Bathing them and unwrapping them will help!
- At least 30 minutes before our session, remove their clothing and simply have them wearing a diaper and snuggled in a receiving blanket. Avoid wrapping them in any blanket that has texture as it will imprint on their skin.
- Plan on feeding them right when I arrive so they will be nice and sleepy. This enables us to move them around for different poses without disturbing them.
- Don’t stress – Your baby is the star of this session and we allow all the time necessary for feedings, diaper changes and snuggle time.
- We will provide a variety of simple props and accessories such as wraps, hats, tutus and diaper covers. If you have any items you would like for us to use please feel free to have it ready.
- Parents and siblings are always welcome and recommended. If you need wardrobe suggestions, please let me know. Also, if your older sibling is between 2 to 4 years old, they may or may not be very interested in a photo session. Their world is changing and sometimes their mood is unpredictable. We will try our best to capture a family shot but sometimes it just isn’t possible.
- Please contact us around your 7th or 8th month of pregnancy so we can have you on our schedule. Once you have delivered, simply text, email or call me, and we will confirm the exact date of our session at that time.

Q. When is the best time for my newborn session?
Definitely within the first 7 – 10 days. Your precious baby will be really sleepy and we will be able to gently move them around for adorable poses.
Q. How should I prepare my baby for the session?
A. Please keep your baby awake for at least an hour or two before our arrival. Bathing them and keeping them loosely wrapped helps keep them awake
Q. What should my baby be wearing for the session?
A. Please have them in a diaper only and wrapped in a blanket. This will prevent us from having to remove clothing before the session….which leads to a happier baby!
Q. Should I wait to feed my baby until you arrive?
A. Yes, please! It definitely helps to have a sleepy baby for posing purposes.
Q. My baby has jaundice / baby pimples, can this be edited?
A. Yes, most skin issues can be edited.
Q. Should I adjust the temperature of my home for the session?
A. Please up the thermostat by several degrees about 30 minutes prior to my arrival. If you don’t have a space heater, please let me know and I will bring one. Babies love it to be warm so I always have the heat blowing near them!
Q. Can you include siblings and parents in the session?
A. Absolutely! Sessions are designed for up to 5 people. However, depending on the age of your older child please be understanding. Two and three year olds are unpredictable and sometimes they want nothing to do with the baby as, it’s a huge transition time for them. We will try our best but sometimes it just doesn’t happen.
Q. When do we pay?
A. A deposit is required to secure a tentative date and the remaining balance is due 24 hours prior to the session.
Q. What type of payments are accepted?
A. Cash or credit card.
Q. Do you also offer prints?
A. Yes, and I recommend it! You’ll notice a difference in quality, especially on larger prints!
